Happy Trails Mix

November 7, 2026

Happy Trails TrailMix

Makes Four ½ cup servings

This recipe is a great mix of protein, fibre, long lasting carbohydrate and iron.  Fast, Easy, Tasty, Portable and easily modifyable. Even people who said they usually don’t like trailmix have found this mix refreshing. I credit it’s success to the base cereal… KASHI go-active. It has a nice variety of different crunchy bits that are lightly sweetened. It has 10g of fibre and 10g of protein per cup with just 7g of sugar. I kept it ‘nut free’ so that it can be used for school lunches, but adding some slivered almonds or pecans or peanuts also tastes great. Make it your own!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup High Fibre Cereal (ie: KASHI go active)

  • ½ cup sunflower seeds (raw or roasted/salted)

  • ½ cup pumpkin seeds/aka green pepita seeds (raw or roasted/salted)

  • 1/4-1/2 cup dried cranberries or raisins or chocolate chips or choc covered raisins (or a combination of these sweet accents)

Other options: Bran buds (for more crunch and fibre), any kind of nuts (slivered almonds, peanuts, cashews, pecans, walnut pieces, hazelnuts etc…), yogourt covered raisins if you like more sweet. I like to keep the ratio 1 part nuts/seeds to 1 part high fibre cereal to a max of 0.5 part sweet/dried fruit. This ration creates a nice mix of flavourful and filling without being too calorically dense. Pack it up into mini tupperware containers or little ziplock bags for a fast portable snack.

Nutrition Breakdown:

Per ½ cup serving: 350 kcal, 13g protein, 33 g carbohydrate, 20g fat (5g sat fat), 7g fibre.

Per 1/4 cup serving: 175cal, 6g protein, 16g carbohydrate, 10g fat (1.5g sat fat), 3.5g fibre

Pack it with you

Keep a mini tupperware in your purse or bag for an easy, satisfying snack.
